Quick Bites: Lucky Catch
To Cory York, Nantucket stands for elegance—and, lucky for Greenville, that New England elegance isn’t a plane ride away anymore. Rick Erwin, of the famous West End Grille, and York are bringing it to Main Street. Erwin has enlisted York as head chef of his soon-to-open Nantucket Seafood Grill, which promises the authentic Cape Cod experience from the moment you swish through its doors. The upscale restaurant will deliver New England flavor and the same impeccable quality and service that earned Rick Erwin’s West End Grille a place among the nation’s top fifty restaurants.
York, a Mississippi native, has scattered his fourteen years of culinary experience over eight states, netting something unique from each region. From Florida, Hawaii, and coastal Carolina, York brings everything he’s learned about seafood to Nantucket’s menu. “It’s all about education.” he says. “Harvest, location, and species.” And the menu, like the seafood, will remain fresh: 40 percent of the selections will change according to the fish in season. Though oysters, lobster, and fish are the menu’s emphasis, York promises that there will be “a little something for everybody.”
The chef spends his days at the construction site and nights testing dishes for his Nantucket menu. Projected to open in mid-March, the restaurant anchors the sparkling new Marriott hotel, located across from the Peace Center. “It’s a fantastic location,” York says. The grill, which will seat about 235 guests, promises a phenomenal bar and wine display and the freshest seafood available.
So skip the plane this spring and trek down to Main Street for a taste of Cape Cod.
