Spring Awakening is not your parents' musical

If the words spring awakening conjure up docile images of crooning birds and sprightly bees, make no mistake: Spring Awakening, the Tony Award–winning musical, is the bruised sky of an early spring storm. This searing show, based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play, is an evocative turn in the lives of the era’s blossoming youth, who deal with budding sexuality, abuse, and parental shortcomings. The audience is voyeur as the young cast frenetically works out their angst, longing, and conclusions about the dark but achingly beautiful realities of life. Don’t miss the soul-stirring, indie-rock score by Duncan Sheik or Bill T. Jones’s electric choreography. The Peace Center has never seen one like this before—and you haven’t either.
